Video Call Check

Check your camera, microphone and output before a meeting. Allow about 3–5 minutes; progress stays on this device.

Your checklist

Open each test, return here and mark your observation. Manual checks are not measured by Testpartout.

  1. 1. Webcam Test

See your camera feed, confirm the right device is selected and check framing before a call.

  2. 2. Microphone Test

Check that your microphone is detected and picking up sound, with a live input level meter.

  3. 3. Speaker Test

Play left, right and reference tones to check each speaker is working, on the correct side and free of obvious distortion.

A practical sequence before a meeting

Allow about three to five minutes, with extra time for any issue. Begin with Webcam Test and confirm you have a usable image and expected framing. Then run Microphone Test and check that speech reaches the local input meter. Finish with Speaker Test or the optional Headphone Test at low system volume. Mark your own observation after each step; the checklist does not infer a pass from opening a page.

Camera, microphone and output checks answer different questions. Seeing a camera image does not establish microphone input, and hearing a tone does not establish that remote participants hear you. No call is placed to an external service and no remote loopback or connection-quality measurement is performed.

Check the same devices in the meeting app

A device working in Testpartout does not guarantee Zoom, Meet, Teams, Discord or another application selected the same device. Open that app’s camera, microphone and speaker settings and compare them with your intended hardware. Check its mute button and any physical headset mute independently. These names are examples, not affiliations or compatibility certification.

Bluetooth headsets can expose different communication and playback modes. Selecting their microphone may affect output quality or routing. If the sound changes only when a call starts, compare the supported headset modes and the app’s device selection. Avoid assuming that a clean tone on a browser page proves all calling software is configured correctly.

Camera or microphone access is blocked

Start the individual test deliberately and respond to the browser permission prompt. If permission is denied, inspect both website permissions and operating-system camera or microphone privacy settings. Another application may already be using a device or a physical shutter or mute switch may be active. Close only applications you are authorized to close.

Testpartout previews webcam video and analyzes microphone input locally without recording or uploading media. If a local meter stays silent, compare input selection and mute settings before increasing gain. A browser check cannot decide which person, cable, port or driver caused a silent input. Follow the symptom-specific guide on the individual test page.

Output, echo and practical listening

Begin speaker and headphone tones at low system volume. The page’s conservative signal gain cannot control an external amplifier or your hardware volume. Left and right controls express intended channel routing, not confirmation that a physical speaker emitted the sound. Check L/R orientation, mono accessibility and balance if a side is wrong.

Headphones may reduce acoustic feedback during a real call, but this workflow cannot measure echo cancellation or remote call sound. Room noise, distance from the microphone and application processing still matter. Use the meeting app’s own preview or test call where available, and stop any listening check if it is uncomfortable.

Finish without uploading a meeting check

Local progress stores only your step statuses, not media or test measurements. Copy Summary is an explicit clipboard action. Reset checklist removes progress from this browser. Clearing this site’s browser data also removes saved progress; there is no account-based recovery or server copy.

Looks OK means your practical observation was satisfactory at that moment. It is not a guarantee of network quality, application compatibility or future reliability. Use Needs follow-up to retain an unresolved symptom and repeat the exact affected test after changing one setting. Only consent-controlled workflow start, step-open and completion events may be sent; your chosen statuses are excluded.
